- How do I make Control3 look like a standard Windows program using ordinary Windows colors and icons?
A: Open the configuration dialog (click on the "Config" button) then click on the "Fonts and Colors" tab and click on the button that says "Set to standard Window's style".
- I would prefer to double-click on a file or directory to open it, so that single-clicking on a file does
no more than move the highlight bar to that file. How do I do that?
A: Open the configuration dialog and uncheck the option that says "Single click to open".
- I don't like the look of the DOS window that comes up when I want to view a file. Is there an alternative?
A: Yes. Open the configuration dialog and click on the "Programs and directories" tab and change the "Multi-purpose file viewer program" to the program of your choice. You might prefer to use a program such as WORDPAD.EXE.
- How do I list a directory in each of the three windows automatically when I run the program, so that I don't
have to locate them manually each time?
A: Open the configuration dialog and click on the "Programs and directories" tab and edit the three "Default directory" entries. Here also you can specify a favorite directory which you can then locate quickly by pressing the F9 key.
- How do I move quickly between different directories?
A: This is one of the big advantages of using Control3. Press "T" (or click on the "Tree" button) to bring up the directory tree window, then start typing the letters of the directory you want to go to. If there are more than one matching directory they are listed below where you are typing. You can select the directory you want from this list either by clicking on the name (with the mouse) or by using the down-arrow key to select the name you want and pressing the Enter key (with the keyboard).
Additionally, from the main Control3 screen, pressing "B" moves up one level in the directory hierachy and pressing the backspace key moves to the root directory.
- Am I stuck with using the "Size" button to change the size of the main window? And can I change
the number of lines displayed?
A: You can change the size of the main window and also the number of lines displayed. To change the size of the main window drag a corner or and edge of the main window to the size you want with your mouse. To change the number of lines displayed go to the configuration dialog and change the font size. The smaller the font the more lines will be displayed.
